Caramelized Thyme onions
The natural sweetness of red baby onions are amplified and balanced with apple cider vinegar, then sprinkled with thyme and herbs and seeds to add texture and flavour
Ingredients
- 500 g baby onions peeled and sliced 3mm thick
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
Seasoning
- Salt and pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon Dried thyme
- 1/4 teaspoon oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon sumac
- 1 teaspoon toasted sesame seeds
Instructions
- Heat the butter and olive oil in a medium high heat in a large frying pan
- When sizzling add the onions and stir to coat with the butter and olive oil
- Cook for ten minutes stirring to ensure they don’t burn
- Add a tablespoon of water halfway through the cooking process
- Season with the salt and pepper, thyme oregano, sumac and sesame seeds
- Cook for a further two minutes
- Set aside to cool
